In 1942, submarines from Nazi Germany (U-boats) brought the Second World War to the shores of Newfoundland and Canada. On October 14, 1942, a U-boat torpedoed and sank the ferry SS Caribou, which resulted in the loss of 137 lives. The sinking caused shock and outrage across Newfoundland and Canada. This virtual exhibit tells the story of that tragic sinking and its remembrance.
