Open for Business

The Saint John Jewish community was well known for its stores, located in the north, west and central areas of the city. These were the places where almost everyone went to buy clothing, shoes, home furnishings and groceries. For those who lived there, fond memories remain of these stores, their owners and the personalized service. This exhibit will take you through the streets of Saint John and the doors of many of these shops, to a time when small family stores built and nurtured Jewish life in Saint John.
